A 45-year-old commercial driver, Alhassan Sule, was last Thursday apprehended by officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) for allegedly attempting to bribe one of their officials at Yangoji unit command.
The FRSC unit commander of Yangoji, Austine Chukwudi Okeke, who disclosed this on Saturday, said the driver of a commercial bus with registration number LG 2813 GT was stopped by a special patrol team. He said the driver was apprehended for overloading, not having a drivers license and traffic light sign violation, adding that in the process of interrogation, he allegedly brought out N1,000 from his pocket to bribe the official and was immediately arrested for attempting to corrupt marshals on duty.
The commander said he ordered that a ticket of N1 0,000 be issued to the driver, while his bus was impounded and taken to the command s office. He said after paying the fine, the driver was made to undergo a public enlightenment lecture on traffic rules and latter released.
Okeke further disclosed that 19 motorists were booked for various offences. He said they were mostly commercial bus drivers and were prosecuted for traffic light as well as caution sign violations, seat belt violation, dangerous driving, over loading and speed limit violation.
He said two commercial drivers had their vehicles impounded and were given lectures at the command’s office.
