Motorcycle thief Jailed for two months

AN Abuja Chief magistrate Court Tuesday sentenced one Hassan Zakari, 17, to two months impris­onment for stealing a motorcycle. The police prosecutor, Inspec­tor Philip Akogwu told the court that one Inspector Tonga Ibrahim of Alfa Patrol Team arrested and took the accused to the Asokoro Police Station on July 21.


He said the accused stole a motorcycle which was parked by the fence of a house at Asokoro, adding that the act contravened Section 319a of the Penal Code.


The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested with the motorcycle around AYA Rounda­bout during a police patrol.


The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and said thus: “l came into town about a week ago and have nothing to eat, which is why I stole the motorcycle”.


Magistrate Vera Tukura sentenced him to two months in prison or to pay N1,000 ad fine option.
